TOMATO
by Linda Leedy Schneider
Red, round, ripe-
full of the sun's heat
familiar in my hand
like a newborn's head
Little pumpkin
of pleasure
dressed in
six scalloped leaves
Leaves that held
the flower
that needed
the bees or a breeze
To start
the seeds
in these
red ovaries.
Sometimes,
there is
so much sex
in my sink
I need to
turn away
and quickly brown
the bulbous onions.

Spoon River Poetry Review
LINDA
LEEDY SCHNEIDER an award winning internationally published
poet and writer, a poetry and writing mentor, a clinical social

College and Ferris State University. She leads writing groups at
Gilda’s
Club for people living with cancer. Linda's volunteer work in orphanages
in Albania motivated her to submit writings and poetry for publication.
Her work has since been published in many literary magazines including
Rattle Literary Magazine, The Spoon River Poetry Review, Pudding
Magazine, WordWrights, Driftwood Review, Poetry Midwest, and Miranda
Literary Magazine. She has written four collections of poetry including “Through

growth.

Guild Conference held annually at Skidmore College in New York.
